Background Information
Long before the existence of the school, the people in the community dreamed of having a school to educate their children because the nearest school is more than three kilometers away and the children are having a hard time reaching the school.
Through the effort of the late Mr. Herbert Y. Retonio, the former Public Schools District Supervisor challenged the former Head Teacher of Agcawilan Silakat Nonok Elementary School; Mrs. Evelyn T. Leyson to look for a person with generosity and willingness to donate a 5000 square meter property to Deped to establish a new school. She then relayed it to her uncle, Mr. Teodulfo T. Yerro, whom she knew that he cannot turn down her request, Mr. Yerro happily answered yes without any second thought or hesitation. Through the joint efforts of these three important people behind the plan and with the cooperation of the Barangay Council headed by Barangay Captain Rogelio Y. Leyson, they complied with all the basic requirements prescribed in DECS Manual 2000.
According to the Regional 3rd Endorsement dated May 9, 2006, the application for the opening of a primary school in the barangay of Agcawilan, Lezo, Aklan, District of Lezo, Division of Aklan, was approved. The school will be known as PRUDENCIO T. YERRO PRIMARY SCHOOL and started serving students in the school year 2006–2007.
The elementary school was given the name PRUDENCIO T. YERRO in honor of the father of the site's donor and in recognition of his contributions to and successes in the fields of education and public service. Mr. Teodulfo T. Yerro was a native of barangay Agcawilan, a former Teacher-In-Charge of Silakat Nonok Elementary School, a former District Supervisor of Kalibo, District 1, a retired Education Supervisor in Social Studies, and also the donor of several projects like the Home Economics Building of Agcawilan Silakat Nonok Elementary School, a Library building and a Boy and Girl Scouts Council building at Numancia Integrated School. He also donated one classroom building for this school but unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to turn over it to Deped personally because he passed away last August 2008.
The school was renamed PRUDENCIO T. YERRO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL soon after the application for a complete elementary school was approved in the school year 2010-2011 with the support of the District Supervisor of Lezo, Mr. Amando A. Zolina.
Description of Significant Milestones:
The school was built with many key milestones since it was placed within the barangay, and the students could study effectively because it was close to their homes. Due to the school's accessibility to them, the parents were grateful and eager to enroll their kids. The Best in Innovation Paper award and the District Innovation Showdown Champion (Teaching Category) were given to Mrs. Juvy A. Moribus and Mrs. Aylen M. Estrella in July 2022. They were the innovators of Project PANDEMIC (Providing Activities Necessary for the Development and Mastery of Indispensable Competencies). Despite their unfortunate failure to make it to the Division Innovation Showdown, Mrs. Moribus and Mrs. Estrella represented the district as innovators, which is still a mark of distinction for their school. The Prudencio T. Yerro Elementary School was validated as a 3 STAR school in WinS for the preceding school year 2021-2022 under the direction of Mrs. Marie Angelyn L. Arcenio, Head Teacher III. Being one of the three STAR schools in the District of Lezo's schools is a remarkable honor for the institution.
