Biography
Mr. Hippocrates S. Motus had a modest beginning. Born on September 12, 1950, in San Isidro, Ibajay, Aklan, to Gaudiosa Sespeῇe Sumcad, a teacher, and Hermenegildo Santia Motus, a dentist who worked for the Rural Health Unit in the Municipality of Ibajay.
He completed his elementary education at Ibajay Central School in 1963 while his secondary education was at Melchor Memorial School in 1967. He took his postsecondary education at Aklan College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 before completing his education units at Manuel L. Quezon University in 1978. Additionally, he pursued a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Educational Management at Northwestern Visayan Colleges, finishing his 45 units. He passed the Professional Board Examination for Teachers after passing the civil service examination for professionals in Manila.
In 1985, he was appointed Provincial Paid Secondary School Teacher 1 at Naisud Barangay High School. In 1988, he was promoted to Teacher-In-Charge of Naisud Barangay High School due to his enthusiasm for the position and the demands of his duties.
He undertook the Basic School Management Course (BSMC) offered by the National Educators Academy of the Philippines in 2006. He took the Department of Education's first National Examination for Principals administered at Iloilo National High School in Iloilo City on July 1, 2006, and aced the exam with flying colors.
Significance
Social Significance: A well-known personality, Mr. Motus’ involvement and influence in the community is enormous. His support ranges from taking part in the organization of festival activities to being a host, judge, speaker, and consultant even in nearby barangays. He puts in his resources by contributing to the school for its beautification program and years ago donated manual sewing machines for the Naisud NHS’s pioneer TVL dressmaking students. He is a regular visitor to most households as he conducts home visitations.
Historical: He was the first Principal of Naisud Barangay High School, now Naisud National High School. According to him, he is the only principal in Aklan who was not transferred to other stations until his retirement in year 2015.
Aesthetic: Mr. Motus is fond of horticulture. He donated giant pots to the school to support the School Beautification Program. As a plant lover, he preferred flowering plants and well-painted fences and jars in the school garden because he believed that bright colors bring happiness.
Spiritual: A devotee of Sr. Sto. Niño de Ibajay, he is very supportive of the festival activities and acts as one of the organizers of the program. He sponsors mass in the Barangay Religious Fiesta and owns a saint who once participated in the Ibajay Parish parade of saints during the Lenten Season.
Economic: The sewing machines he donated to Naisud NHS pioneer TVL-Dressmaking students were instrumental in providing these students the hands-on skills to learn the basic steps in making blouses and skirts which serve as their stepping stone to being local designers of outfits for different occasions.
He is also one of the pioneers of putting up Ibajay Tourism which spearheads the showcasing of what the municipality has to offer to the people visiting the town.
