Biography

      Dr. Emelda Q. Fuentes is a notable on her unwavering dedication in education. Born to parents who are farmers, Vicente Macaldo Quimpo and Dolores Belonio Quimpo. She is the eighth of the nine siblings in a broad of five girls and four boys. She is born on a leap year in 1960. She is married to Bonnie Gregorio Fuentes of Kalibo, Aklan and they blessed with six children namely: Bernard, Bobby, Milagrosa, Mildred, Benedict and Bryan Jesse. Bernard is the Head Teacher I of Camanci National High School, Camanci, Batan, Aklan. Bobby is a Teacher III – ALS Mobile Teacher in the District of New Washington. Milagrosa is an entrepreneur, Mildred is an Accountancy graduate and presently employed as procurement analyst in Metro Kalibo Water District, Kalibo, Aklan. Benedict is an Agriculture Technician in the Department of Agriculture LGU Kalibo and the youngest Bryan Jesse is presently studying in Aklan Catholic College, Kalibo, Aklan taking up AB Political Science.

      She took her elementary at Guinbaliwan Elementary School in 1973 and graduated as an outstanding pupil. She took her secondary education at Aklan College (now Aklan Catholic College) in 1977. She finished her Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Accounting at the Garcia College of Technology, Kalibo, Aklan as a semestral scholar. She took Bachelor of Elementary Education at Aklan College in 1986. She graduated Master's Degree, majoring in Educational Management at the Northwestern Visayan Colleges, and completed her Doctor in Philosophy from Aklan State University, Banga, Aklan in 2007.She passed the Professional Examination for Teachers in 1988.

      She started as an Instructor at the Garcia College of Technology in 1982 – 1984. She served as a Faculty Member/ Administrative Assistant at the Dela Cruz Institute of Business and Industry, Kalibo, Aklan from 1981 –1987. She became a public elementary grades teacher from 1991- 1995 and a Teacher In- Charge from 1995 – 1998. She was promoted as Head Teacher I in 1998 and Head Teacher III in 1999. She became Principal I in 2002 and retired as School Principal IV in 2021 at New Washington Elementary School, New Washington, Aklan.

      Dr. Emelda Q. Fuentes was conferred with Career Service Executive Eligibility (CSE) in 2005 by the Civil Service Commission. She is a recipient of the Science and Mathematics Summer Institute (SAMSI) DOST Training Program and also a recipient of the Southeast Asian Ministries of Education Organization (SEAMEO ICexCELS) Competence Course in 2010. She was the School Head Awardee, Hall of Fame as Division and Regional Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing School-Large School Category, from 2016 to 2019. She was also a two-time National Awardee of Brigada Eskwela Best Implementing School. She was an Outstanding Elementary School Principal during Pagkilaea in 2021.

      Dr. Emelda Quimpo Fuentes embarks on the standards of qualities of a professional leader and a visionary of dreams and hopes for the welfare and goodness of her school, teachers, and the school community, especially for the children.

Significance

Historical.She is the only Principal IV of DepEd Aklan and recognized as National Brigada Eskwela Winner for two consecutive years, three-time Regional Winner and Division of Aklan acclaimed Hall of Famer.

Social.She spearheads the partnering and making connections both in public and private organizations in the realization of additional 22 classroom buildings. She initiates the aesthetic structures and facilities of the school by enforcing Bayanihan Spirit among stakeholders and continuous beautification initiatives for the school. Because of her initiative and being resourceful, Ayala Foundation has a partnership with New Washington Elementary School. They provided assistance in terms of school buildings and yearly capacity trainings for teachers Ayala Foundation also provides ICT room with accessories like several high quality laptops, tablets, tables, chairs and internet connections. Globe Communications likewise became NWES partners and donated an evacuation center. One Meralco Foundation is another partner of the school. They also provided classrooms, books and desktops to the school. She transforms the school by mapping the most essential needs over the years in infrastructure and quality education. She was able to produce three teachers who became an ATOM Awardee namely: Buenafe R. Casugbu in 2015, Sharon R. Gungon in 2017 and Dave Richard J. Santiago in 2018. Dr. Fuentes spent half a decade of her supervision and administration expertise not only in NWES but in all the elementary and secondary schools in the municipality of New Washington as Principal-in-Charge of the district.
