Narrative Description

In 1994, with the aim of having a school in the barangay, Dumatad Primary School was established with proponents and, upon request by the late Hon. Felixberto S. Sanglitan, former barangay captain, and his council. Through their efforts, it was granted and funded by the Department of Education, Culture, and Sport (DECS). The construction of the demountable building followed.

Through the generosity of the late Mr. Elias T. Valentin, he donated his lot without hesitation to the people of Dumatad, with an area of 5, 000 sq. m. in Sitio Bukid, Purok 4, Barangay Dumatad, Tangalan with the help of Mr. Loreto C. Torneo.

Under the supervision of Mrs. Aploren A. Bereber, Public Schools District supervisor, and Hon. Eden T. Gelito, the newly elected barangay captain, the construction of the demountable building was finished. Mrs. Desiree A. Campos was the first multi-grade teacher, and at the same time the teacher-in-charge, with an enrollment of 25 in Grade 1 and 20 in Grade 2. After 3 years of service from 1995 to 1998, Mrs. Campos was transferred to Tamalagon Elementary School, now Tamalagaon Integrated School. Mrs. Juvy P. Trinidad replaced her until she transferred to Dapdap Elementary School in 2001 and was succeeded by Mrs. Ailyn D. De la Cruz who acted as teacher and in-charge for 10 years prior to her transfer at Jawili Elementary School, now Jawili Integrated School. Mr. Hector S. Sulbod then opened his arms to accept the challenge as teacher and teacher-in-charge. Under his leadership, enrolment increased every year, and additional teachers were deployed through Municipal School Board.

It was in 2012 when Kalahi-CIDSS was introduced in the Municipality of Tangalan. With the effort, eagerness, and dedication of Hon. Jaypee P. Alayon, Sangguniang Barangay Member and Chairman of Education Committee; Mrs. Aploren A. Bereber up to Mr. Jesse E. Bereber, Public Schools District Supervisors; Mr. Loreto C. Torneo, President of BSPMC; Mrs. Gina Fe De Jesus, BSPMC Treasurer; and the rest of the council members grabbed the opportunity to propose the 1-story classroom building project with complete amenities worth 1.2 million pesos. This project helped a lot by complementing the schools’ classroom deficiencies, which turned Mr. Elias T. Valentin’s dream a reality and now a legacy.

Blessings continue to arrive in Dumatad Elementary School as one classroom from KALAHI-NCDDP and another classroom from the Department of Education were built from 2015 to 2016. In that year, Dumatad Primary School was converted to Dumatad Elementary School under the leadership of Mr. Hector S. Sulbod, Teacher-in-Charge. The first graduation ceremony was held in 2017 with 29 quality and competitive graduates.

At present, Dumatad Elementary School has seven (7) permanent teachers with new Teacher In- Charge in the person of Mr. Joey T. Tumbagahan.
