Type of Culture Institution

Quirico T. Tabanera Elementary School is an educational institution undertaking the systematic and deliberate process of sequential learning corresponding to the general concept of the elementary level of schooling. At the end of each level, the learner needs a certification to enter or advance to the next level.

II. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION

Quirico T. Tabanera Elementary School was formerly named Calimbajan Primary School. It was established in the year 2003 under the State of the Nation Address (SONA) Project of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The school was named after Quirico T. Tabanera, the donor of a 1,250 sq. m. lot in the year 2007, where the SONA school building was constructed. The first teacher in the school was Mrs. Wilma C. Taytayon a grade 1 teacher. The establishment of this school earned negative feedback from other people in the community because of the existence of one elementary school in the adjacent barangay, the Calimbajan-Tina Elementary School which is more or less 3 kilometers away from the barangay proper.
However, the Barangay Council of Calimbajan find it necessary for them to establish the said school because there are plenty of school children residing in far sitios of the said place who were walking along "kanipaan", and "kakogonan", just to attend classes there, not to mention the risk in crossing the busy highway. Worst of all is the frequent absences of children in the middle of the school year which results in dropping out of classes.
For eight (8) curriculum years from 2003 – 2011, the school was managed and supervised by the school heads of other schools who come only to visit when the need arises. Nevertheless, the Officer-in-Charge was able to run the school smoothly, the reason why its enrolment increased consistently every year and additional teachers were deployed there.
In the year 2012, a School Principal II was assigned to manage the school with 6 Regular Permanent Teachers, 2 Provincial School Board Teachers, 2 Municipal School Board Teachers, and 1 Kindergarten Volunteer Teacher. The enrolment has increased a lot from a mere 25 grade 1 pupil to a total of 306 from Kindergarten to Grade 6 in S.Y. 2013-2014. The presence of a full-fledged School Head encouraged the parents to enroll their children in Quirico T. Tabanera Elementary School.
At present, the family of the late Quirico T. Tabanera continuously extends support to the school for the benefit of the school children and the people of Barangay Calimbajan.
