Narative Description

Before WWII broke out, illiteracy was considered a major problem in Ondoy. To address this, the residents decided to put up a school. The late Cayetana Melodias Silva, a philanthropist, donated a lot intended for this purpose. Initially, it started from Grade 1 until it reached Grade IV. With an increasing number in enrollment, some residents offered their homes as temporary classrooms. Without intermediate classes though, learners were sent to Poblacion or Brgy. Aquino where there was a complete elementary school.

Later on, the people of Ondoy decided to purchase lots. Lots from the children of Cayetana Melodias Silva, Severa Silva vda. de Telan, Rosa Silva vda. De Mijares and Mayolo Silva were bought. Another piece of land of Mrs. Aurea Magsipoc-Ursua was bought by the school PTA in 1962. Some civic-minded women, Mrs. Marta Dalisay-Navarro and Mrs. Abadesa Dalisay-Morota, through their mother, the late Maria Dalisay, donated a lot, thereby increasing the land area of the school to the size of a hectare.

Buildings were constructed for intermediate classes, and in the School Year 1956-1957, the first graduation exercises were held. In the succeeding years, more and more buildings were erected like the Gabaldon, Magsaysay, and Marcos-type buildings which later on were replaced with Bagong Lipunan Buildings, among others.

The school continued to grow, both in the number of pupils and teachers. Several school heads were assigned to manage the school when it became a full-fledged complete elementary school. Currently, the school is headed by Mr. Rodnie P. Gubaton.

Description of Significant Milestones

With the span of more than seventy years of operation, Ondoy Elementary School has produced men and women who have been successful in their chosen careers or fields of endeavor. One alumna of the school in the person of Mrs. Concepcion M. Toboso has garnered the most coveted award as one of the Outstanding Teachers of the Philippines as sponsored by Metrobank Foundation, Inc. in September 1990, thereby bringing the school to fame.

Stories and Narratives

Ondoy Elementary School actively competes or engages in the field of academics, co-curricular or extra-curricular activities. The learners bring home awards for every contest they participate in. Such can be attributed to its competent and committed teachers to which they are mentored or coached. Of course, it cannot be denied that there are learners who need more extensive assistance and guidance. In this regard, teachers are devising programs and activities to improve their reading, writing, and computing skills.
