Narative Description
Before the Second World War broke out, illiteracy was one of the biggest problems confronting the greater number of people in the barangay. To solve this dilemma, the majority of the residents decided to put up a school- like a Primary School. This was realized when the late Cayetana Melodias Silva, a philanthropist, donated a small site for this purpose. It started with Grade I pupils followed by Grade II up to Grade IV in a span of four years. Because of the increase in enrolment, some residents offered their houses to be temporary classrooms to accommodate the excess pupils. In the absence of intermediate classes, pupils who desired to graduate from Grade VI were sent by their parents to Poblacion or to the neighboring barangay like Aquino where there was a complete Elementary School.
As the years went by, the people of Ondoy decided to purchase a bigger lot from the children of Cayetana Melodias Silva adjacent to the donated lot for the Primary School. Purchasing a bigger lot took place when Severa Silva vda. de Telan, Rosa Silva vda. De Mijares and Mayolo Silva agreed to sell their common lot to the people of Ondoy. Immediately, buildings were constructed to open intermediate classes, and in the School Year 1956-1957, the first graduation exercises were held.
Since then, the school has continued to grow, both in the number of pupils and teachers. The size of the school site has been made bigger when another group of civic-minded women in the persons of Mrs. Marta Dalisay- Navarro and Mrs. Abadesa Dalisay- Morota, through their mother, the late Maria Dalisay, donated a lot which has become the half portion area near the school gate. Then in the year 1962, another lot adjacent to this was sold to the school PTA by Mrs. Aurea Magsipoc- Ursua which became the other half portion covering the pathway going to the main gate.
Additional buildings had been constructed to accommodate the increasing number of the school population. With the demolition of the Gabaldon, Magsaysay, and Marcos- Type buildings, the Bagong Lipunan buildings were constructed to replace them. Repair of the school's damaged areas has been going on to make the buildings more comfortable for the school children. Ondoy Elementary School, with a land area of a hectare, is located on the western side of Ibajay West District. The school is about five kilometers away from the Poblacion westward and found along the National Highway on the right side going to Nabas and Malay. The school site is accessible to any kind of land transportation be it motorcycles, tricycles, jeepneys, and buses. At the northern part of the school, one can see the Sibuyan Sea where fishermen try to catch different fishes for consumption or sale. If the weather is good, the sea is available for swimming any time of the day. The school site seldom suffers from flooding except when very heavy rain occurs over the place due to a strong typhoon.
Several school heads were assigned to manage the school when it became a full-fledged complete elementary school. They were the late Mr. Felix S. Telan, the late Mr. Nicolas Martirez, the late Manuel Salido, the late Manuel Calizo, Sr. the late Miss Estrella M. Melodias, Mr. Silvestre M. Diaz, Mr. Manuel Tumbocon, Mr. Antonio G. Magpusao, Mr. Virgilio O. Dalisay, Mr. Allan F. Corro, and the present principal is Mr. Rodnie P. Gubaton.
Presently, there are two sections per grade level, having a total of 12 classes from Kindergarten to Grade VI. The school population is 191 males and 189 females with a total of 380. Classes are now face-to-face from Monday to Friday.
