Jovencia Bantigue Sucgang-Pacis, a remarkable woman known for her unwavering dedication to education and community, was born on June 1, 1932, in the picturesque town of Balete, Capiz. Throughout her illustrious 90-year journey, she has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals, shaping the future of her students and inspiring her community with her tireless efforts.

Jovencia was born to parents Manuel Sucgang and Composa B. Sucgang, who instilled a strong sense of values and a deep appreciation for education. She embarked on her educational journey at Odiong Primary School, where her thirst for knowledge and passion for learning was evident from a young age. She continued her studies at Altavas Elementary School, further nurturing her academic prowess, and graduated in 1947.

In 1951, Jovencia graduated with distinction from Altavas National School, completing her secondary education with flying colors. Driven by her determination to contribute to society through teaching, she pursued a scholarship at Iloilo Normal College. She studied Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEEd), making history as the first teacher from Barangay Odiong to complete a four-year course in 1955.

After graduating from college, Jovencia's passion for teaching led her to pass the teacher's board examination, cementing her commitment to the field of education. She became the first teacher from Odiong Elementary School to hold a four-year degree, a milestone that showcased her dedication and expertise.

Jovencia excelled as an educator, teaching Music, Arts, and English. Her students remember her as a mentor who fostered an environment of learning, creativity, and personal growth. As a former scout leader, she also actively engaged her students in scouting activities, imparting invaluable life skills and instilling a sense of camaraderie among them.

One of the highlights of Jovencia's teaching career at Odiong Elementary School was during mass demonstrations, where she and her students consistently won as champions for the Hawaiian and Fiesta sa Nayon categories for their exceptional performances. Her unwavering commitment to her students' success and her ability to bring out their best were undeniable.

In addition to her teaching profession, Jovencia also embarked on a sideline as a skilled baker, specializing in creating delectable cakes. Her passion for baking delighted her family and served as a means to generate extra income, showcasing her resourcefulness and entrepreneurial spirit.

Jovencia's dedication to education extended beyond her professional life. She found love and companionship in Enriqueto Pacis, and their union blessed them with five children, who became a testament to their enduring love and commitment to family.

Jovencia's career in education spanned over four decades, during which she wholeheartedly devoted herself to her students and the community. Her unwavering commitment and exceptional contributions were recognized when she was awarded the prestigious honor of being a Centennial Retiree. She was one of only two recipients in Aklan to receive this distinction. Her retirement at age 65 marked the culmination of a lifelong journey dedicated to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning.
