:When the Americans came, with them are teachers called ''“Thomasites”''. They used to ride on their horses inviting all children who were with their parents in the fields to go to the said school. The children who were attending school were being fed as part of education. They were given chocolates, milk, lemonade and packed breakfast. This generosity made these schoolchildren very much overwhelmed of the benefits given to them and got interested in attending classes. This strategy resulted to the increase of enrolment. The American teachers looked for a bigger land area wherein they could build a wider space for them due to the increasing number of children. | :When the Americans came, with them are teachers called ''“Thomasites”''. These guardians and parents were interested to enroll their children to this school even the rooms are not enough to occupy them. Type of Culture Institution
- The Makato Integrated School is a public educational institution that offers formal Basic Education Curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade XII. The school was the first to offer Special programs in Sports and Journalism in the Division of Aklan. In Senior HS, we offer General Academic Strand (GAS), Science and Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) under Academic Track. In addition, we have the Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) composed of Electronic Product Assembly Services (EPAS), Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM). Moreover, the school also offers four (4) combinations in TVL which are: Beauty and Nail Care Services (BNCS), Food and Beverage Services (FBS),Local Guiding Services (LGS) and Tourism Promotion Services (TPS).
- Believing that “No Child will be left behind”, we pave the way for non-formal education by providing one classroom for Alternative Learning System (ALS) under a mobile teacher and District ALS Coordinator Mr. Ruben T. Senador, Master Teacher I.
NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION
- It was during the Spanish period when the school was established. The exact date was unknown. The Spaniards called it as the School of the King or “Eskwelahan ng Hari” located at the town plaza of Makato, now presently occupied by the Office of the Postal Service Corporation. According to the old folks, the style of teaching and learning during the time was called “Kartilya” and reading and memorizing “novena” in Spanish and Latin.
- When the Americans came, with them are teachers called “Thomasites”.
- Philanthropic persons namely: Nicasio Timtiman, Dominador Tefora and Alejandro Tamayo donated hectares of land where the school now stands. The Thomasites named it Makato Primary School and later on became Makato Elementary School.
- The following were the principals of Makato Elementary School: James C. Hor (1918), Mr. Jaime Caisano (1927–1928), Mr. Rufino Timtiman (1929–1931), Mr. Ambrocio Palayo (1932–1934), Ms. Consolacion Tejada Tenorio (1941–1945), Mr. Talopiao (1946–1956), Ms. Lourdes Mationg (1957), Mr. Juan Yeban (1958–1963), Ms. Cresenciana Tonel (1964–1975), Mr. Lucerfido Tocol (1976–1980), Mrs. Rosalina Martelino (1981–1982), Mrs. Estrella Tejada (1983–1984), Mr. Eulogio Gerada (1985–1986), Mr. Gonzales (1987–1999), Mrs. Delia Tumaob (2000–2004), Mrs. Helen Gonzales (2004–2006), Mrs. Lourdes V. Tesoro (2006–2010) and Dr. Ana S. Andrada (2010 to present).
- In 2005, the Parents–Teachers and Community Association Board of Makato Elementary School composed of SB Member Nerli F. Makato Integrated School has maintained her high quality of education as the enrolment keeps on increasing with the continuing support of parents not only within the municipality but also from the neighboring barangays. But despite of that, it became a high performing school because of the continued support and cooperation.

SIGNIFICANCE
Historical
- Makato Integrated School (MIS) was originally known as Makato Elementary School since 1918 before its conversion as MIS in 2006. This is one of the oldest public schools in the municipality and in the province of Aklan.
Aesthetic
- Makato Integrated School (MIS) was adjudged as the most beautiful school from 2011 to 2015 and a consistent winner in the Brigada Eskwela Implementing School (BEIS) both in Division and Regional Levels. Previously, our learners engaged in Beauty Search and Pageant where they come up victorious but later it was discouraged but still our school continuously and actively participates in cultural presentation which is educational wherein their natural grace and beauty are discovered and displayed like folk dancing, singing and other performances to express and expose their God-given talents.
Economic
- Makato Integrated School has been producing graduates who excel in the different professions and in varied fields of expertise after they were being equipped by the knowledge and wisdom from their teachers. After seeking greener pastures and become successful in businesses and profession in their own choice, they are paying back to their alma Mater as ready to answer voluntarily from their hearts what the school need through donations.
Political
- The Provincial and Local Government as best partners through school board make efforts to answer the priority needs of the school. Successful MIS alumni who engage in political career are the best asset of the school to facilitate because they occupy positions like barangay captains and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members.
Spiritual
- The school conducts monthly mass facilitated by assigned or In charge Grade Chairpersons with the Holy Child Parish Church Priests. Students and teachers joined hand in hand in all church activities like Youth formation programs, Ash Wednesday, “Flores de Mayo” and recollection before closing programs and graduation. They get involve and serve as choir members in order to evade from bad influence. MIS also integrates catechism in their classes as spiritual upliftment with volunteer retirees as teachers.
ASSESSMENT OF THE INSTITUTION
A. Condition/Status of the Institution
- Makato Integrated School as a central school is the number one choice of those who crave to gain education particularly those who hail from the barangays. Its enrolment was controlled and limited in 2011 to present during the Superintendency of Dr. Jesse M.Gomez. The main purpose of limiting the acceptance of enrollees in MIS is to utilize classrooms and to increase enrolment in the elementary barrio schools and to lessen the problem of crowded learners in the classrooms of MIS where they flock as majority of the parents insist to educate their children in town proper. This was managely done by giving catchment area for every school.
- Presently, MIS accommodates 2,383 officially enrolled learners . Ten (10) temporary or makeshifts classrooms were put up for additional Junior HS and SHS through the efforts of generous donors and the parents thru the General Parents-Teachers Association (GPTA). ICT, canteen and laboratory rooms are also cleared to be utilized as classrooms. The school has a concrete and covered pathways from the entrance gate to their classrooms. This was facilitated by donors and stakeholders through donated bags of cements, gravel, sand and bricks to augment the school MOOE in order for the learners’ accessibility, protection and convenience in getting in and out in school especially during rainy days. School concrete perimeter fence is in the process of completion since it was stopped during the 2 years of pandemic where budget was realigned to covid related expenses as priority. The supply for light and water facilities needs improvement though the school is a recipient of having a transformer of its own.
- Looking forward for the increase of enrolment and additional TVL strands for SHS in the future. The school has an ongoing processing of putting up a SPED class for the PWDs and learners with disabilities.
