Biography
APLOREN ABELLO AGUELO BEREBER was born on August 9, 1949, in Tangalan, Aklan. She is the eldest of the five (5) siblings. Her parents, Virgilio A. Aguelo, was a retired Bureau of Agricultural Extension Technologist (BAEX) and was awarded Outstanding Technician in the whole Philippines and got the TAMBULI, the highest reward among the Ten Outstanding Awardees in 1977 in Malacañang by the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Her mother was a successful housewife and farmer. Because of the sacrifices they made while working on the farm, all five of her children grew up to be professionals and successful in their chosen fields.
Her name is a combination of the names of her two grandmothers, Apolonia (the mother of her father) and Lorenza (the mother of her mother). She was raised to be a modest and orderly adult, and as a result, she excelled in school and received honors and accolades. She enrolled in Tangalan Elementary School in 1956, where she excelled throughout her elementary school. She was a model student from first grade through sixth grade, and she graduated in 1961. She continued her secondary education in 1961 at Aklan Academy and graduated in 1965 as a model student. She enrolled in her tertiary education at Northwestern Visayan Colleges, taking up a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and graduated in 1969 as Cum Laude. She took her graduate studies at Aklan College, taking up Master of Arts in Education, major in Administration and Supervision, and graduated as Cum Laude in 1984. She earned her 45 units in Doctor of Philosophy at Aklan Agricultural College consortium with the University of San Agustin from 1991 to 1993.
She is happily married to Mr. Jesse E. Bereber of Bulwang, Numancia, Aklan, a retired Public Schools District Supervisor. Mr. Jesse and Mrs. Aploren had been blessed with four (4) lovely and successful children, namely: Ma Jean Virgili is employed at JP Morgan Chase Bank, Vrenilli, the 2nd child is a teacher, Viselli, the 3rd child is a nurse and Van Loren, the youngest is self-employed. Being a teacher is a position of trust and responsibility. It is a commitment to build honest, trustworthy, courageous, patriotic citizens who shall steer our country to the heights of greatness. Thus, when teachers see their pupils succeed academically, they go back and recognize them with great gratitude, which is the joy of being a teacher.
Mrs. Aploren Bereber had remarkable experiences with her pupils and frequently received the following response: "Thank you, ma'am, you are the best!" She started teaching at age 19 at Tangalan Elementary School as a classroom teacher in 1969. She became the District PE, Health, Girl Scout, and Sports Coordinator District of Tangalan during her time. Due to hard work and dedication, she obtained her promotion. At a young age, she rose from the ranks. She was Head Teacher III of Tagas Elementary School from November 2, 1983 to September 30, 1985. After a month of the same year, she was promoted to Principal I of Tamalagon Elementary School until April 29, 1988. She transferred to Tangalan Central Elementary School from April 30, 1998, to August 7, 1990. On August 8, 1990, she was promoted to Principal II at the same school and became in charge of the District until September 11, 1996. She became the Public Schools District Supervisor of Tangalan from September 12, 1996, until January 2, 2013, her retirement date.
She received different awards and citations. One of which is being an Outstanding Alumna of Northwestern Colleges in 2011. Because of her excellence, she was also invited as a graduation speaker and awarded as Outstanding Alumna of Aklan Academy in 1998. In addition, she was appointed a member of the People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) in the Municipality of Tangalan. Recently, she was appointed as a member of the Municipal Advisory Council for Police Transformation and Development.
Mrs. Bereber had a passion for community development. She was tapped and instrumental in leading the World Vision ABANTE Aklan as Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairperson. Four municipalities were beneficiaries, Batan, Altavas, Tangalan, and Nabas, and later extended to Madalag and Malinao. She contributed immensely to improving access to education, health and sanitation, infrastructure, economic (livelihood), and spiritual aspects of families. Likewise, she distributed fishing gear to the indigent coastal beneficiaries and provided financial assistance to livelihood projects like goat raising in Nabas Aklan.
